HON-KOMAGOME JISSO-AN

HON-KOMAGOME JISSO-AN tearoom was designed based on the famous tea house 'Hasso-ken(tea house with eight windows)' of Manshuin Temple in Kyoto.  The Hasso-ken tea house was originally constructed by a court noble more than 350 years ago and is registered as Important Cultural Property in Japan.

HON-KOMAGOME JISSO-AN tearoom is conveniently located near 'Yanese' area in the north of Imperial Palace.  Name of the tea room, JISSO-AN, was given by the eminent chief priest of Hieizan Enryakuji Temple when it was constructed in 2010.

Course Description

When guests arrive, cups of warm water are offered to purify their mouth.  Then they are guided to a garden path and asked to purify their hands before entering the tearoom. They crawl into the dark tearoom through a tiny sliding door.  This is how traditional chanoyu ritual starts, as being sophisticated and passed down for over 400 years.

Tea master replenishes brazier with charcoal and burns incense.  Then exquisite tea ceremony is performed.  Experience matcha green tea while enjoying the sound of water simmering in a kettle.  Tea master will help you explore chanoyu world with interesting stories and insights into Japanese culture and traditions.  Enjoy a meditative moment and a tranquil escape from the secular world.
